http://www.sorethumbradio.comThere are multiple people and websites trying to make an impact on the Rochester music scene. One in particular is Sore Thumb Radio, lead by a name that many Rochester musicians are familiar with, Jeff Cosco.
While RochesterBandInsider.com is for all musicians and bands, Sore Thumb radio is geared only towards original local music. This is a website and internet radio station that plays only original music 24 hours a day. Jeff hosts weekly live broadcasts at Johnny's Irish Pub every monday evening on one of the 6 stations to pick from. The best part? Everything is free for musicians and bands. Here is a question from their website:
Are you one of those "What are you gonna do for me? people." then:
> Your music will played randomly 24/7/365.
> A good percentage of the time it will be announced before and/or after, who you are, what the name of the song is, and how to buy it from you.
> The player tells them the artist and the song every time a song plays.
> Your website and links to where to buy your music will be listed on our web site on the BAND/ARTISTS page.
> we run a one hour show of various featured artists 4 times a week. It is one hour of just your music!
These are just a couple of the perks that I can see when browsing through their site. Any original band or music that has not been submitted to Sore Thumb is missing out on completely free advertising, promotion, radio play, etc...
In speaking with Jeff over the weekend, we are going to try and combine our efforts and work together as much as possible in our shared goal of improving the music scenes in and around Rochester.
On top of submitting your material, also be sure to support your fellow musicians by tuning into the station. Whether it be at work or at home, tune in and check out what some of your peers are submitting! Heck you could even request it be played at your local bars (those that have the internet of course).
Check it out and hope you enjoy yet another tool available to musicians in the area!
(
Note: There are NO covers played on the station at this time. The reason is that to do this, SoreThumb would need to pay ASCAP/BMI for the rights to air those songs. There simply is not enough benefit to outweigh the cost of adding covers to the playlist. There IS a way you could have a cover, but it involves getting permission or paying your own royalty fees to the song owners. You would need to provide proof of this in order to get on the playlist I would imagine.)
